Rules

  • Visioni VR Contest, organized in collaboration with the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology, is dedicated to documentary works in XR (VR, AR, MR), both linear and interactive. These works should explore themes related to the globalized world, science, technological innovation, extraordinary individuals, collective models, and stories linked to scientific and natural fields
  • Italian or international XR works completed after January 1, 2025, are eligible to participate.
  • Selected works will be showcased at the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology from Friday, September 18th to Sunday, September 20th.
  • The Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology will offer works selected for the Visioni VR Contest the opportunity to remain available to the public for the two weekends following the event (September 26–27 and October 3–4), subject to authorization from the rights holders.

LANGUAGE AND SUBTITLES: Italian works must be presented in Italian with English subtitles (burned-in); International works must be presented in English. If the original language is different, English subtitles are mandatory.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Works must be compatible with at least one of the following devices:

  • Standalone: Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, or Meta Quest 3S.
  • PC VR: Meta Quest 2/3/3S connected to a PC with maximum specs: CPU Core i9, GPU GeForce RTX 3070Ti Edition 8GB or similar performance, 32GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro.

The following are admitted:

  • 360° Videos and interactive XR works (3DOF or 6DOF) of any duration.
  • During registration, the documentary format must be specified (VR, MR, or AR).
  • For 6DOF room-scale experiences, the physical space dimensions required must be specified during registration.
  • Any other formats must be previously agreed upon with the Festival Direction.

Submission of Materials:

Videos/software must be sent via a downloadable link accompanied by a technical sheet. Applicants should indicate if the material is available on platforms such as:

ARCHIVE COPIES: Authors and producers are invited to donate a copy of the work to be kept in the archives of the Fondazione Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci in Milan. This is for exclusive study and documentation purposes; any commercial use is excluded to protect the interests of the authors and producers.

Awards and Jury

Selected XR works will compete for the Visioni VR 2026 Award worth €1,000, awarded by a jury composed of the public who will try the experiences.

Selected works will also compete for a Special Mention conferred by a quality jury composed of press and content creators.

Rules regarding Prizes

  • The Direction reserves the right to establish further prizes, special mentions, or collateral juries by the start of the 2026 edition.
  • All winning films (including recipients of special mentions) are required to display the official Festival logo and the indication of the prize received in the opening/closing credits of the screening copy and on all promotional materials (posters, trailers, press-books). The logos will be provided by the Festival office.

The request for registration to the Festival must be made by completing the official entry form (Entry Form) available online on the official website. All applications must be submitted no later than May 31, 2026.

  1. For pre-selection, the work must be sent exclusively via a protected link, indicating the URL and password in the online registration form.
  2. The link for viewing the work, with the relative password, must remain active at least until the end of the Festival.
  3. Materials sent for registration (including screeners) will not be returned.

 

Entry Fee

For each work registered, an entry fee of 30.00 Euro (VAT included) is required to cover administrative, secretarial, and pre-selection expenses. The fee is non-refundable and must be paid via the following links:

Note: Only works for which the entry fee has been correctly paid will be admitted to the pre-selection phase.

Validation and confirmation of registration

Registration will be considered valid only when:

  • The title complies with the Regulations and the requirements of the call.
  • The screener link (URL and password) has been correctly provided.
  • The ENTRY FORM has been completed in its entirety.
  • The entry fee has been settled.

If the registration is carried out correctly, the office will send a confirmation e-mail attesting to the participation in the pre-selection. The official outcome of the selection will be communicated to the interested parties by July 1, 2026.

Selected works

The selection of XR works is carried out by and at the final judgment of the Festival Direction. The directors are not required to provide comments or feedback on the works submitted, either to the proponents or to any other representative of the work.

Official communication will be sent to the selected works, to which an acceptance response must be sent within five working days of receipt. Once the official invitation has been accepted, the documentary cannot be removed from the program.

The official selection will be announced at the press conference. It is strictly forbidden to communicate the selection to third parties before this date, except for specific exceptions provided by the Direction.

For all selected works, any form of promotion after the official announcement of the program must indicate participation in the 12th International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo with the official logo prepared and provided by the programming office. On this aspect, an active commitment is required from the rights holders of the selected title. Producers and distributors of the selected films undertake to place the official Festival logo on the film’s promotional materials (including posters, trailers, social and web materials) and on the screening copy of the film, indicating the film’s participation in the Festival and subsequently, if awarded, the mention of the prize received, according to the official graphics prepared and provided by the Festival’s programming office.

Decisions regarding programming (sections, times, and locations) are the exclusive competence of the Direction and are to be considered definitive and final.

The Festival will handle the drafting of a catalogue with the titles selected for screenings.

The owners of the selected works are required to send the following documentation and the copies necessary for the preparation of the Festival materials (catalogue, website, social networks, promotion, and screening during the event).

All materials must be received digitally unless otherwise agreed with the Direction. Materials must be sent in digital format to: visionivrcontest@visionidalmondo.it

 

Required documentation and materials

  • Logline, Synopsis, Director’s Notes, Biography, and Filmography of the director (in English)
  • Digital press book if available.
  • Complete Technical Sheet: Direction, Production, Producer, Distribution, Editing, Photography, Duration, Country, Year, Contacts (in English).
  • Poster, HR film photo (300 dpi), director’s photo.
  • HR Trailer (max 2 minutes) via digital delivery – if available
  • video/software of the selected work, via downloadable link and accompanied by a technical sheet for use on devices

Following confirmation of participation, the Programming Office will send all details with the deadlines to be respected.

General rules

These regulations are drawn up in Italian and English. In case of interpretation problems, the Italian version shall prevail.

The Festival will not be held responsible for any “immaterial” losses suffered by the director, producer, or distributor in the event of technical problems during the screening. In case of loss or damage to the copy, the Festival’s responsibility will be limited to the value of reprinting the copy according to the rates in force in Italy.

It is the responsibility of producers, distributors, or other subjects presenting the documentary to guarantee that they are legitimately authorized to register the documentary for the Festival. By registering their documentary for selection through this call, the participant declares themselves to be the holder of all copyrights of the documentary (also for the part of any co-authors who do not intend to participate), including those relating to any copyrighted material included within the documentary.

The Festival cannot be held responsible for the unauthorized inclusion of any copyrighted material within or related to the submitted documentary. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify any documentary containing any unauthorized inclusion of copyrighted materials.

Use of Material by the Festival

After the selection of a documentary, the Festival has the right to:

  • Use all promotional material related to the documentary to promote the Festival
  • Keep a copy of the documentary in its archive for non-commercial use and educational purposes

The request for admission to the Festival implies unconditional acceptance of these regulations. The Festival Direction is the only one authorized to make decisions regarding matters not provided for in these regulations. For any dispute, the Court of Milan is competent.

Hospitality

The Festival offers hotel accommodation for one or two nights for the director of each selected XR work (if not residing in Milan and its province) at the hotel affiliated with the Festival.

Details regarding the length of stay, dates, and any travel benefits (where provided) will be communicated by the Programming Office at the same time as the official notification of selection. Any needs for additional rooms for team members or for extended stays can be managed by taking advantage of the Festival’s special rates, subject to availability check with the Festival Hospitality Office and with costs borne by the applicant.

Only the tourist tax is charged to the guest and must be settled directly at the hotel.

After the selection, the Festival will provide all information regarding accommodation arrangements; hospitality confirmation must be confirmed by those concerned no later than the terms indicated in the invitation letter.
