Where no roses bloom
Synopsis:
The Cave del Predil Mine was closed in 1991, for political and economic reasons. The miners did everything to avoid its closure, and the great strike during which 55 miners stayed underground for 17 days is still in recent memory. An action dictated not only by the desire to keep their jobs, but by the fear of a disintegration of the community and a whole world that revolved around it.
Thirty years after the closure, we go back in the memories of that world and that community, together with some elderly miners, who are now contributing to the revival of the mine in a touristic way.

Director’s notes:
I wish to tell the troubled story of a seemingly semi-abandoned town, where the past is intertwined with a future that is now the present.
The elderly miners are a key part of a rebirth that they have been waiting for years. It’s finally sweeping over them. The documentary will tell all this through their gaze and their memories, in a succession of situations in which they represent the trait d’union between a glorious mining history and a path of cultural enhancement led by the local museum.
Production notes:
This project started from some interviews that the director made to the old miners for an assignment from Tarvisio Municipality. Then we thought that there were the premises for making a very interesting documentary, as the 4 miners are really cool and charismatic. We applied to Friuli Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Fund, with the support of Tarvisio Municipality, the Cave del Predil Museum, and a co-development support from the Slovenian Bela Film. Then, we applied and won the grant at REACT.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY
Since 2008, she has been producing documentaries and fiction films for national and international market. In recent years she has produced over 15 documentaries, including two mini-series, and 2 feature films, many of them co-produced and with international distribution.
Currently, she is working on the production and co-production of numerous projects, documentaries and fiction, all in collaboration with European partners, as well as directing her documentary “Where Roses Don’t Bloom.”
