Synopsis:
The only resident on the island of Asinara is a sculptor of logs stuck on rocks. Enrico Mereu is now a form liberator, but for many years he did the opposite job: guard in the maximum-security prison on the same island. A man of radical choices, he would never cut down a tree and learned from inmates to do without the superfluous. Today, everything drives him to leave his paradise, but it is a bond that is hard to break. Enrico endures.

Director’s notes:
Enrico’s body will be my preferred medium of exploration. His hands are the tools that immortalize his emotions in sculpture, but they are also the point of contact between the majesty of nature and human being. My room will therefore have a close relationship with his physical expression. I find his inner monologue lovely and would like to highlight it with his voice off.
Enrico is not a hermit: his family is crucial, consequently my room will often place itself within it.

The Film, in collaboration with Rai Cinema, has recently finished location scouting, which served to gain a greater connection with the location and with the protagonist Enrico Mereu.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY
After several short films, the film Tartarughe sul dorso earned him a David di Donatello and Nastri d’Argento nomination as best first-time director. Il Richiamo, shot in Argentina, was screened at the Toronto Film Festival and distributed in many countries. In 2021 he co-wrote the Swiss film Atlas, with Matilda De Angelis. In 2022 he made the documentary Il Tipografo, which won the Visioni dal mondo festival and was officially selected for the 2023 Nastro d’argento.

Solaria film was born in 2013 to produce Io Sono Nata Viaggiando, a collaboration Rai Cinema and NBC Universal, followed by projects such as Redemption Song premio Rai Cinema at the International Festival Visioni dal Mondo, Arrivederci Saigon official selection at the 75th Venice International Film Festival and Entierro which received the Ibermedia Programme grant and Best Cinematography award at Biografilm Festival 2019. Among narrative films: Glass Boy ECFA Award at the BlackNight Film Festival Tallin.
