Director’s notes:

The documentary intertwines two narrative threads. The first delves into Giorgio Lolli’s “revolution” using his own extensive footage and photos collected over forty years. Through various formats and interviews, Giorgio’s voice guides us, while Nello Correale’s footage contextualizes the story of the 500+ radio stations founded by Giorgio in Africa. The rhythm and period-based soundtrack enhance the storytelling.
The second plot follows an eighty-year-old Giorgio on a road movie-like journey between Bologna and Livorno. Despite his age and challenges, he maintains a youthful spirit. We observe his daily life, involvement in a project for a pirate radio station in Livorno, and the installation process. The setting replicates the atmosphere of the rural radios Giorgio established in sub-Saharan Africa. Throughout this narrative, we witness Giorgio’s transformation into a mentor figure, while the story culminates with the broadcasting of Radio Solaire Livorno.

Production notes:

The film was born within a context of friendship and is a great tribute to the protagonist and to radio itself. This is why it is a project that, in addition to its potential as a documentary, is also educational and informative, with the possibility of positioning itself as a pilot for transmedia projects. 90% of the footage has been captured, with a few interviews remaining that characterize the more “Italian” part of the project, mostly located in Emilia Romagna, where we plan to secure part of the budget through the Regional Audiovisual Fund. Currently, the project is seeking a post-production studio, also in Emilia Romagna, to finalize the project, which must be completed by the beginning of 2024, as it will coincide with the centenary of Public Radio. This provides the perfect opportunity to “offer” this documentary for events, dedicated schedules, and public screenings.
