A Family
Synopsis:
In the 90’s Roberto was arrested and his boat was confiscated: he was a drug trafficker between Italy, Morocco and Brazil, transporting hashish and cocaine on his sailboat. After twenty years he decides to return to cross the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean together with his son Jacopo, in a sort of handover of the knowledge of the sea, on the same boat that was the scene of many adventures in the past. Halfway through the trip, his mother Dani also joins, who was the first in the family to get passionate about sailing when they were young. Jacopo will have to face the journey between the contrasts and the still open wounds of his family, learning about the sea in order to then be able to cross it without his parents.

Director’s notes:
The documentary is divided into 3 chapters respectively narrated by father, mother and son. With their testimonies we will discover the story of this family, amid vicissitudes, pains and falls but also great emotions, wisdom and love. All this against the backdrop of a sailing trip from the Roman coast to the Caribbean, during 50 days on the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. A journey through the winds, memories and hopes of an always uncertain future. A story about the desire for redemption, about a broken family and its rebirth.
Production notes:
The documentary A Family is in the editing phase, the conclusion of which is scheduled for the end of August 2023. Currently the missing funds to complete the sound design and mix, the music, the color correction and the delivery is around 21.000 euros, which is counted being able to reach with the contribution of the minority co-production Garden Film by Lorenzo Borghini, through the request for funds from the Naval Association and sailing magazines. In the event that the budget for the Visioni Incontra pitch dates is not complete, it will become our goal to also find a co production to complete the film. The priority choice for the world premiere of the documentary is the Berlin Film Festival 2024 or Locarno Film Festival 2024.
DIRECTOR BIOGRAPHY
Graduate in Performing Arts and Sciences – Cinema, LaSapienza, Rome. Diploma in screenwriting TRACCE S.N.C. Specialized in Editing in EICTV (International Film and TV School, 2014-2017, Cuba). Guadalajara Talents 2018, Berlinale Talents 2023. Member of European Film Academy (EFA).

In 2020 he won the Ibermedia found for the film Morena by D. Silva Díaz, in minority co-production with the Dominican Republic. It is in charge of the executive production in Cuba of the film Taxibol by T. Santambrogio (presented at Vision du Reel 2023) and of the short film El Soldado by M. Faccenda. The titles produced are the documentaries by M. Faccenda Reflex on the Screen (Amazon Prime Video), Genius Loci (RAI channels) and A Family (in post-production). Furthermore, it is preparing the executive production in Cuba of the documentary Calle Pura by A. Chiarappa.
