NÉMOS SAILING THE SEA

Marco Antonio Pani | Italy

LOGLINE

A large group of shepherds and rural people, artisans and fishermen from Sardinia improvise the story of the Odyssey to build together a modern and universal epic tale, to re-discover our Mediterranean roots.

Synopsis:

Sardinia, today. Two improviser poets compete in a poetic contest in Logudorese Sardinian.
The story is that of Odysseus. The Sardinian people, through their relationship with places, with their language and their way of thinking and acting, will reshape the Odyssey as a timeless tale. Kings and divinities, princesses and castaways are told through the filter of this culture, in a continuous time jump between a present and a mythical and ironic past. The story mixes characters from the myth, contemporary witnesses strangely informed of the facts, improvisational poets. All of them at some point become the interpreters of the characters of the Odyssey.

Director’s Note:

Who was Odysseus really? Not only a king, but also a breeder in command of a crew and an army made up of shepherds. Our story starts from here, to represent our most ancient and universal Mediterranean roots, rediscovered thanks to that ability to dream and to narrate of the Sardinian people and to the wonderful, timeless story that is the journey of Odysseus. A somewhat decadent hero, one of us, or perhaps one of the shepherds who today protest for the price of milk by pouring thousands of liters onto the asphalt.
