Stories for Sandro
Synopsis:
Sandro has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, a revelation that disrupts his life and that of his family. Sandro has always possessed a highly imaginative, curious intelligence. But now, the memories he cherishes so deeply are slipping away. How can they be saved? The idea comes from his son Giacomo, who inherited Sandro’s vibrant imagination and who works as a film director: to use the magic of cinema to create an archive of memories for his father. He will stage the most significant memories of Sandro’s life in a theater. However, these memories must be collected before it’s too late. “Stories for Sandro” is a film about the stubborn love of a son who wants to save the relationship with his father.

Director’s Notes:
Although the film has a strong, emotional undercurrent, the aim is to tread the thin line between drama and comedy, so as to leave room for a lighter, more ironic side too. The theme of Alzheimer’s is never addressed in an overly explicit or heavy-handed manner; it stays in the background, engaging with various moments of the action, sometimes noticeable, sometimes less so. However, it is never a negative, overbearing presence. And this can happen thanks to Sandro’s unconventional personality, his positive attitude and his genuine wonder in facing all things in life.
Production Notes:
Stories for Sandro, was born with a very lean production system; the need to create intimacy between Giacomo and Sandro led to minimal crew choices. Wanting to document the relationship between father and son and the progress of the illness, we created an elastic production system to capture the most diverse moments. The other imaginative part of the film, which will take place in the theatre, has instead a much more complex structure, with the assembling of an articulate troupe, the casting of actors and the construction of sets within it.
