Brief Synopsis:
“My Mom, Jayne”, the directorial debut of Emmy Award-winning actress Mariska Hargitay, tells the moving personal journey of the filmmaker as she uncovers the story of the mother she never had the chance to know: legendary Hollywood star Jayne Mansfield, who tragically died in a car accident when Mariska was just three years old. Through never-before-seen archival footage, private photographs, and intimate interviews with family and friends, the documentary weaves together the public image of the icon with a more vulnerable and profound portrait of the woman and the mother. What emerges is a complex figure, far from the stereotypes that made her famous, portrayed for the first time through a deeply personal, empathetic, and loving lens. “My Mom, Jayne” is a journey into memory and identity, a heartfelt act of love that redefines the bond between mother and daughter, even across time.
Director’s Notes:
This movie is a labor of love and longing. It’s a search for the mother I never knew, an integration of a part of myself I’d never owned, and a reclaiming of my mother’s story and my own truth. I’ve always believed there is strength in vulnerability, and the process of making this film has confirmed that belief like never before
