Italian Contest – New Talent First Feature
Brief Synopsis:
Climate change has reached an extreme: temperatures and solar radiation are so intense that it is impossible for humans to go outside during the day. People work only at night, and during the day, the cities are deserted. As a result, wealthy residents can afford to live in underground bunkers equipped with every comfort, while poorer individuals live in precarious conditions in decaying buildings left on the surface, forced to survive with what little they have. Linda and Aurora (grandmother and granddaughter) share their experience as residents of the surface buildings. Cosimo, on the other hand, talks about the psychological problems and severe hallucinations caused by his life of confinement in the underground bunker.

Director’s Notes:
The atmosphere of the interiors is sterile. Cyan-toned indoor colours stand in stark contrast to the warm, suffocating colours of the exterior. Contrast between the white noise of the present and the natural sounds of the past.Actors must convey sincerity. Linda and Aurora should appear humble. Cosimo must evoke a sense of unease and restlessnes. The ending should leave the viewer suspended, wondering whether what Cosimo said is real, a product of his imagination, whether the sound of thunder is real, or if we too are perceiving his hallucinations.
