Forty years without Giancarlo Siani

Panorama Out of Contest

Brief Synopsis:

September 23, 1985, 9:30 PM, Naples, Vomero district: Giancarlo Siani is killed by the Camorra. He was on his way home, had just parked his car. He was 26 years old. He worked for “Il Mattino” and dreamed of being a journalist. For years, his murder remained a mystery. Eight years later, in 1993, the truth slowly begins to surface — a truth that could come to light only thanks to the clear, determined gaze of other young people, all of them the same age Giancarlo Siani was when he was killed. A group of young investigators who would come to be known by everyone as the “Siani Pool.” They are the protagonists of our documentary.

Director’s Notes:

“But don’t lose your enthusiasm. It’s a shame,” Giancarlo Siani wrote to his partner Chiara. Enthusiasm moved his actions as a very young reporter in a hostile environment. Enthusiasm fueled the investigation that, after much uncertainty, led to the identification of the killers and masterminds behind his brutal assassination. Men and women who gave their all for what they believed in. And, in doing so, they made history. I want their enthusiasm and passion to be the dominant notes of this story.
