Brief Synopsis:
Istituto Luce, one of the oldest public film institutions in the world, celebrates its centennial by entrusting the great contemporary Italian comedians with the realisation of an anthology film. Retracing the classic strands of Italian-style comedy, the short films reuse iconic clips from the repertory of the past to create a new story. Love affairs and betrayals, music, and the history of Italian cinema are just some of the themes the film touches on. The images thus find a new dimension in the celebration of the past and present of Italian cinema, and of our lives. An anthology film composed of seven shorts, directed by the protagonists of contemporary Italian comedy. The result is, first and foremost, an amused and varied tribute to a century of audio-visual memory, and also a creative way to explore and reinterpret Italy’s rich heritage of images.

Director’s Notes:
The materials of the Luce Archive represent a great treasure for Italian history. Inspired by the style of commedia all’italiana, seven directors explored the archive, blending, interpreting, and recontextualizing its content, humorously overturning its original meaning. With performances by beloved figures of today’s comedy scene, interwoven with images from the past, the filmmakers created fake autobiographies, small stories, and improbable events that play between past and present, touching on various themes and, through seven short films, reflecting the complexity of our society.
