The International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo
reveals the visual identity of its eleventh edition,
scheduled in Milan from 11 to 14 September
Milan, 27 May 2025 – A human figure in backlight moves toward a beam of light that breaks through the darkness, a symbol of discovery, awareness, and a transition toward new visions. It is a simple yet powerful gesture — the visual emblem of the 11th International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo, founded and directed by Francesco Bizzarri with Maurizio Nichetti as artistic director, taking place in Milan from 11 to 14 September 2025.
The impactful and evocative visual recalls the idea of a threshold — a point of passage that each person is called to cross. The image does not impose a single interpretation, but opens up the possibility of choice, becoming the visual manifesto of ONE STEP FURTHER, the theme of the 11th International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo.
In the darkness of indifference, distraction, and habit, the Festival becomes a source of light and invites the audience to make a conscious move, to go beyond appearances, to take ONE STEP FURTHER toward change and the building of a more sustainable future.
The documentary is the medium through which reality, in its most vivid and authentic form, finds a voice and becomes a story. The image of the 2025 edition is a call to look, to question, to feel, to not remain still, to choose the path of sensitive intelligence, of real intelligence, made of critical and conscious gazes on the world we live in.
“This image fully represents what the Festival aims to be today: a space of crossing. That beam of light is the concrete possibility of accessing reality, of seeing it without filters. Documentary cinema, independent by nature, does not simply narrate: it challenges, questions, stirs, demands. It is this cinema of the real that urges us, that invites us to take ONE STEP FURTHER toward understanding, awareness, responsibility. It is a civil act, a necessary gesture, in a time when staying open to the truth is already a form of resistance.” comments Francesco Bizzarri, President and Director of Visioni dal Mondo.
“Documentary cinema still has the power to surprise and shake us. This year, we are asking the public not to settle, to go beyond. ONE STEP FURTHER is an act of resistance to conformity — it’s the choice to remain human in a time that often demands distraction. Documentary is a tool of truth and wonder.” adds Maurizio Nichetti, Artistic Director of Visioni dal Mondo.
For the 2025 edition, Visioni dal Mondo confirms its prestigious venues in the heart of Milan:
• Teatro Litta, one of the most significant examples of Lombard architecture;
• Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, the most important science and technology museum in Italy and one of the most prominent in Europe and the world, cultural partner of the Festival;
• Cineteca Milano Arlecchino, a model of modern art cinema in the city’s landscape.
As every year, the Visioni dal Mondo Festival offers a rich programme divided into several sections:
• Italian Competition, dedicated to Italian documentaries, with two categories: feature-length films and new talent (debut film);
• International Competition, open to the best foreign productions;
• Visioni Incontra, the industry section dedicated to projects in advanced development or work in progress;
• Visioni VR, focused on works in virtual reality.
The Festival will also be an opportunity for dialogue with directors, producers, and authors through masterclasses, panels, and meetings dedicated to the analysis and development of contemporary documentary cinema.
The submission deadline for documentaries and projects is 31 May 2025.
