CALL FOR ENTRIES OPEN FOR

THE 12th INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FESTIVAL VISIONI DAL MONDO, MILAN, SEPTEMBER 16–20, 2026

 New “New Talent Short Docs” section for short documentaries and a strong focus on young talents

Milan, 25 February 2026 – The International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo, the annual event dedicated to the cinema of reality founded and directed by Francesco Bizzarri with the artistic direction of Maurizio Nichetti, announces the official opening of the call for entries for its twelfth edition, scheduled to take place in Milan from 16 to 20 September 2026.

The 2026 edition, featuring an expanded five-day format, introduces a new addition to its competitive line-up: the New Talent Short Docs section of the Italian Contest. Aimed at young authors and directors at their first or second work, this category is entirely dedicated to documentary short films with a duration of less than 30 minutes. It represents an opportunity to intercept and promote more concise and experimental audiovisual narrative languages, offering a showcase for emerging talents.

The call for entries, available from today on the official website www.visionidalmondo.it, will include the following competitive sections:

• Italian Contest: dedicated to Italian independent productions, featuring the Feature Films category (duration over 50 minutes) and the new New Talent Short Docs section (duration under 30 minutes).
• International Contest: open to foreign documentary films with a duration of over 65 minutes.
• Visioni VR Contest: in collaboration with the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology, dedicated to virtual reality works exploring new narrative and technological frontiers.
• Visioni Incontra Contest: part of the Industry section, curated by Cinzia Masòtina, Head of Industry of the Festival, and aimed at industry professionals. The Contest is open to Italian and international documentary projects seeking funding, with the categories final development (projects in pre-production or early production) and work in progress (projects already in production or post-production).

The deadline for submission to the Contests is set for 31 May 2026. The complete regulations and submission procedures are available in the dedicated area of the website www.visionidalmondo.it.

The selected titles and projects will be evaluated by quality juries composed of Italian and international industry professionals and will be premiered in their original language. The screenings will take place across the Teatro Litta complex, involving its various spaces, and the Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology for the virtual experience areas, consolidating the 12th International Documentary Festival Visioni dal Mondo as a point of reference for the cinema of reality in the heart of Milan.
