Cristiana Capotondi was born in Rome in September 1980. She made her debut at the age of twelve in the television series Amico Mio. Her first appearance on the big screen in the 1995 movie Vacanze di natale 1995 (Christmas holidays 1995). Cristiana then acted in several television series, including anni 50 e anni 60 (50s and 60s,)produced by the Vanzinas brothers and in Compagni di classe (Classmates).
In 2004 she is in the cast of the tv fiction ‘Luisa Sanfelice’, by the Taviani brothers and she is the protagonist of the movie Volevo solo dormirle addosso (2004) by Eugenio Cappuccio, presented at the 61st International Venice Film Festival, in the section ‘Mezzanotte’ (Midnight) . Later that year, she starred in the movie ‘Christmas in love’ produced by Neri Parenti
In 2005 Cristiana graduates from the University of Rome in communication sciences with a thesis on Italian cinema, and in the same year she is nominated for the Silver Ribbon for Best Supporting Actress for Volevo solo dormirle addosso and for Christmas in love.
In 2006 she is the main female character in Notte prima degli esami, director debut of the screenwriter Fausto Brizzi. The movie is the 2006 biggest box office, it gets 11 nominations for the David di Donatello Awards, and Cristiana as Best Actress. The movie is also awarded the Diamond Award and the prestigious Biraghi Prize. In the same year Cristiana is Teresa in the historical movie The Viceroys by Roberto Faenza.
In 2007 she starred in Come tu mi vuoi, and gets another nomination for best actress for the Silver Ribbons.
In 2009, she stars in Ex, the new Fausto Brizzi movie
In 2010 Cristiana plays Empress Sissi in a tv miniseries that reaches astounding audience, and she is awarded in Austria the Romy Schneider Prize. In the same year Cristiana is the leading role in Dalla vita in poi by Gianfrancesco Lazzotti (special jury prize at the Montreal Film Festival), and she wins the prize as Best Actress at the Taormina Film Festival. Still in 2010, she plays in the movie La Passione of Carlo Mazzacurati, presented in competition at the 67th Venice Film Festival.
In 2011, Cristiana works with Terry Gilliam in his movie set in Naples, The Wholly Family. In 2011 she is in Kryptonite with the director Ivan Cotroneo, and in the same year she plays in La peggiore settimana della mia vita , director debut of Alessandro Genovesi, another blockbuster. She is in the jury of the section Controcampo at the 68th International Venice Film festival. She is in the miniseries Holocaust hidden olympics games
In 2012 she works again with Fabio De Luigi in The Worst Christmas of my life and in a only girls comedy Amiche da morire, togheter with Sabrina Impacciatore, and Claudia Gerini, the director debut of Giorgia Farina. The movie becomes a cult and the three actresses win the prize Super Ciak d’oro. In the same year, Cristiana plays the role of Flora in La mafia uccide solo d’estate by Pierfrancesco Diliberto. The movie is a big success both box office and critics : Donatello prize, Silver Ribbons, Efa Oscar for the best comedy.
In 2013 she plays in Amori elementari by Sergio Basso and Soap Opera, delicate and surreal comedy directed by Alessandro Genovesi and screened at the opening of the Rome Film Festival.
In March of 2014 Cristiana made his directorial debut with the short Sulla poltrona del papa. In December of the same year Cristiana is back to work with Gianfrancesco Lazzotti in the movie La Notte è piccola per noi .
In 2015 Cristiana returns to the small screen with the tv movie La Casa nel cuore, a social theme taken from the book Condo Western: the fiction gets excellent ratings. In March of 2015 she plays in the second movie directed by Kim Rossi Stuart, Tommaso, and in the same year she is the director of the episode Solferino28 in the Milano 2015 documentary
in 2015 Cristiana adds to her artistic career also the direction, togheter with Giorgio Lauro, of a Radio2 programme, dedicated to football.
In September Cristiana plays alongside Alessandro Boni, in a Rai1 tv series Di padre in figlia written by Cristina Comencini and directed by Riccardo Milano
In spring 2016 she is back to Radio where she replaces Giovanni Veronesi in the programme Non è un paese per giovani. Cristiana is currently working on a tv fiction for Rai1 about the life of Lucia Annibali, an adaptation of the lawyers’ autobiography: the director is Luciano Mannuzzi. In the summer of 2016 Cristiana plays in the comedy Metti una notte, the director debut of Cosimo Messeri
